LEAF's New Staff Stampede 2026

The Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (LEAF), in partnership with Lamar CISD, welcomed the new employees during the annual New Staff Stampede on July 30 at Safari Texas Ranch. The western-themed event brought together hundreds of educators and staff members for an evening of connection, celebration, and community before the start of the 2026–2027 school year. 

Presented by Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, the event introduced new employees to district leadership, community partners, and the many resources available to support them as they begin their careers within the district. The event was made possible through the generous support of its title sponsors, 26 event sponsors, and 14 raffle donors, whose investment helped create an unforgettable welcome experience for the district's newest team members. 

"The New Staff Stampede is one of my favorite traditions because it reflects exactly who we are as a district and as a community," said Kameela Lewis, Executive Director of LEAF. "Before our newest employees ever step into their classrooms or offices, we want them to know they are supported, appreciated, and surrounded by people who are invested in their success. When we invest in our educators from day one, we're investing in every student they'll serve." 

Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed Texas barbecue, live music, sponsor exhibits, photo opportunities, raffle prizes, and interactive activities. 

One of the highlights of the night was the Color Track Roll Call, where staff was introduced to the district’s color track system. The evening also featured the crowd-favorite Stampede Showdown, an interactive trivia competition that tested participants' knowledge of Lamar CISD and LEAF while creating laughter and friendly competition. 

Campus and district leaders encouraged employees to embrace this year's district theme, "All In: Changing the Game," as they prepare to make a difference in classrooms and throughout the district. 

"Being 'All In' starts with people," said Dr. Roosevelt Nivens, Superintendent of Lamar CISD. "It's about showing up for each other, building strong relationships, and remembering why we do this work. Every student deserves adults who believe in them, and every employee deserves to know they have a team behind them. That's the kind of culture we're building together at Lamar CISD."  

For Kaya Acosta, New Staff Stampede marked the beginning of a journey of years in the making. A graduate of George Ranch High School, Acosta is returning to Lamar CISD as the first former Campbell Elementary student to return and teach at her alma mater. This fall, she will serve as a Kindergarten through second-grade Special Education CAP teacher, bringing her lifelong connection to Lamar CISD full circle. 

Acosta said the evening gave her the opportunity to meet fellow educators, build new relationships, and feel even more excited about the school year ahead. 

"Growing up in Lamar CISD and now coming back to teaching at the school where my own journey started is incredibly special," Acosta said. "This event helped me connect with so many amazing people before the school year even begins. I've already planned my lessons, prepared activities for my students, and I truly can't wait to welcome them into my classroom. Receiving support from LEAF makes that first year even more meaningful." 

LEAF continues to invest in the success of Lamar CISD students and educators through classroom innovation grants, professional development opportunities, scholarships, and district-wide enrichment programs. 

LEAF also invites both new and returning employees to support these efforts through the Employee Giving Campaign. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps fund innovative classroom projects, expand opportunities for students, and strengthen public education across Lamar CISD.
